Abstract Painting

‘Beneath the surface’ is a two-part project filled with layers of emotions. The artist used a mixed media technique with collage, acrylic paints for and oil pastels to create a rich and complex composition with layers of texture and colors.

The two paintings represent a similar theme with a different color scheme. ‘Beneath the surface I’ relates emotions of anxiety and hope. The artist uses bold colors superposed by layers of shadows and light to transport the viewer from a place of darkness, anxiety, confusion and complex emotions to a world filled with light, hope and positive outlook.

The use of earth elements adds texture to these 2 pieces and invites the viewer to look closely at each part of the painting to discover small intricate areas filled with interesting shapes that could be translated into flowers, butterflies, bushes and more.

Similarly, ‘Beneath the surface II’ is a complex piece of work where the artist has also used earth elements and layers of colors and texture; but in this second painting, the bold colors shine through leaving a more positive feel of happiness and freedom.

The artist has freed herself from the darkness that is more prevalent in ‘Beneath the surface I’ and created a world of colors where optimism and contentment shine through. Colors of Blues and Greens, Yellows, Greige and Beige prevail to lift the spirit and lighten the mood to leave you with a feeling of joy and hope.

The titles of these pieces invite the viewer to look beneath the surface figuratively and literally for a deeper and complete understanding of our emotions and the elements that affect and drive them. Beneath the surface I and II can be displayed together or separately.
