Afshan Quraishi is a contemporary painter who lives and works in United Arab Emirates. She belongs to the aristocratic family of Kurnool, a small pre independence princely state in Andhra Pradesh, India. Her paintings pay homage to her homeland. Her distinctive personal style emanates joy and peace and expresses the atmosphere and the spirit of her cultural values.
As the artist explains, “It is important to express one self, provided the feelings are real and are taken from your own experiences. My work is autobiographical in a sense." From her early years, Afshan has created a space for herself for her innate talent. Mentored by the well known artist Aziz Azimi, she soon found a niche in the art world for herself. Though the pressures of a new life in a new country took a while for her to come back to being a full time painter, she has successfully resurrected her passion for painting with her works being shown at World Art Dubai & many local as well as international art festivals, every year.
She has always believed in the positive effects of a good subject brought to life with contrasting and harmonious colors. Afshan’s artworks have been shown in India, UAE,U.K, Lebanon, France, Mauritius and Africa. She has two solo exhibitions to her credit. The artist was juried into Ras Al Qaimah Art Festival(for 3 consecutive years) and Mauritius Art festival and is the recipient of multiple art awards. She received Leanardo Di Vinci Artist Award (2018), Nirmaan judges choice awards(2019), VOSAP artist Award for country represention(2020), Arab Cultural Art Award for her contributions to empowering Women artists & Clyde & Co. Art Award(2020)
She is a senior artist with a sound track record for her art sales & art practice. She has a distinctive style in realism portraits, horses & animal art in oil painting, contemporary art & modern Arabic calligraphy .
