In Lena’s work, this concept is reimagined by “uniting” fragments of antique kimonos with delicate layers of gold leaf, symbolizing renewal and giving the textile a second life as contemporary art. The shimmering lines of gold do not simply mend; they celebrate time’s passage and the resilience of beauty.

The piece features antique kimono fabric adorned with cranes on the left - an enduring Japanese symbol of longevity and good fortune. On the right, vintage obi (kimono belt) fabric carries the woven word “Longevity,” embedding a direct message of blessing within the textile itself.
