Dubai Sunset Acrylic Painting

This is an acrylic painting using the technique of blocking in and glazing before the additional details are added on to the subjects. The artist uses the waters of Dubai Creek and abra (water taxi) as her inspirational subject for this painting. The painting is set in under the sunset sky where the banks of Dubai Creek glows in faded vision. The artist's focal subject is abra, which is a half boat and half raft made of wood. Abras, which means 'to cross' are a significant part of Dubai Marine transportation transporting people and goods from two shores of Bur Dubai and Deira. The background of the setting sky is painted in shades of ultramarine blue, deep turquoise, orange and burnt orange to that creates the afterglow of sunset and fading skyline of Dubai Creek.

The artist uses the same shades of ultramarine blue, deep turquoise and orange to paint the rippling waters of the Creek. For the main subject of Abra, the artist has used the rustic shades of burnt umber, raw sienna, burnt sienna and Naples yellow to bring about the wooden surface and textures of the traditional boat. The artist added the wooden plank in the corner that anchors the boat to give a subtle hint of the other shore.
