Dancing Ganesha

Sumana Malakar

When I started doing this painting, I think about all that I've received from the elephant God Lord Ganesha. His very form is an inspiration. Maybe it's his uniqueness - the way animal world and human world come together, or maybe it's his very nature - his playfulness and wisdom, his intelligence and his austerity. As he probes you on to take the spiritual path, he also keeps you rooted in the material world, encouraging you to taste and celebrate all its sweetness and wonders. Ganesha is both ascetic and worldly. Here, in my painting I showed that he is dancing on rice which signifies showering of his blessings and making you prosper in all aspects of your life. The Modak in his hand signifies victory over vices and total control over the sense organs - sweetness is thought words and deeds - thereby bringing sweetness in relationships. My medium is acrylic and strong brush strokes and knife works are clearly visible in this abstract form of my painting. I hope my art can spread peace, love and strength in your home too.
