Architecture Acrylic Painting

This is an acrylic painting using the technique of blocking in and glazing before the additional details are added on to the subjects. The artist has centered an old, traditional architecture of a building of Al Seef marketplace as her inspirational subject, using the colors of yellow ochre, naples yellow, raw and burnt sienna. The various shades of earth tones stays true to its old, sturdy architecture. The artist uses naples yellow for barjeel (wind tower) and the top front of the building to suggest warm afternoon light of the day. Shades of raw sienna is used for creating shadows of the building sections that are away from the sunlight. The steps at the threshold of the building and the pathway around is painted in lighter tints of grey suggesting the blend of commercial and modern layout. Water painted in ultramarine blue beneath the building assures the viewer that the structure is standing at the banks of Al Seef. The flock of birds actively flying over the barjeel and across the building hints the viewer of the possibilities of what is lying behind the solid structure. With the clear, blue sky and warm sun light reflecting off, the artist aims to give the viewer a feel of lazy afternoon at the banks of Al Seef.
