Al Seef architectural Acrylic Painting

This is an acrylic painting using the technique of blocked in and glazing before the additional details are added on to the subjects. The artist has centred an old, traditional architectural building of Al Seef marketplace as her inspirational subject, using the colours of yellow orchre, naples yellow, raw and burnt sienna. Al Seef is a traditional waterfront attraction alongside Dubai Creek that evokes the cultural heritage of Old Dubai amidst modern amenities. The heritage styled structural building and sikkas with shops and restaurants offer a leisurely hub for tourism. The various shades of earth tones stays true to its old, sturdy architecture.

The artist uses naples yellow for barjeel (wind tower) and the front section of the building overlooking the waters to suggest the warm afternoon light of the day. Shades of yellow orchre and raw sienna are used for the distance section of the building, while the outer surrounding alleys reflect sun and shadows in tones of yellow and grey. Water painted in shades of naples yellow, raw umber and deep turquoise beneath the building assures the viewer that the structure is standing at the banks of Al Seef. With the hints of wispy clouds and birds in the blue sky, the artist aims to give the viewer a feel of a lazy afternoon at the banks of Al Seef.
