Arabic Architecture Acrylic Painting

This is an acrylic painting using the technique of blocking in and glazing before the additional details are added on to the subjects The painting's focal subject is an old, traditional heritage house with barjeel (wind tower) on top of the building, that is an integral structure with any old, Arabic architecture. This is one of the typical building that is situated in the historic area of Al Bastakiya on the south part of the Creek shoreline and connects to Al Seef in its design and location.

In this painting, the artist uses the Heritage House located in an old district of Dubai, which was built in 1890, as her inspirational subject. The artist uses naples yellow to paint the concrete structure of the building. Using burnt sienna, the building's unruly layers of bricks are outlined, highlighting the aging cracks and ruggedness of the structure. Raw sienna is used to paint the doors and balcony walls to give them a coarse texture and a rustic look. The artist captures the essence of a temperature risen sunny day by painting a balmy blue, clear sky and adding shadows under the tree. The artist aims to take the viewer in the past of what the traditional house may have looked like under the warm sun on the horizon.
