Ocean Mixed Media Painting

This painting was inspired by the human tendency to forget the hidden treasures that reside within it. We often look outside ourselves for validation, fulfillment, acceptance, and love. Hidden Treasures reminds us that all that is already within us and that we only need to look within to find it. I was inspired by the ocean bed where hidden treasures are sometimes miraculously found. When we are adventurous and curious, we can find the most amazing treasures in our lives. I often think the most mundane and simplest things in life can be the most valuable things in it. Freedom and time are treasures, time to reflect on things that you have that most people don’t are treasures. Having wonderful friends, family, and pets are treasures. It’s not only what we have inside that we take for granted, but also what is right in front of our eyes all along.

I used mixed media for this artwork. The fruit net was first hardened with fabric hardener on the canvas and once dried, gesso was added as primer for the acrylic paint. I used gold spray paint and water to show the texture of the fruit net and dyed black resin to fill some of the holes in the net. Lastly, I glued on some dried clear resin to indicate water droplets.
