Abstract Mixed Media Painting

“Lunar Dust” was inspired by the quiet beauty of earthy tones and how they can feel both grounded and celestial simultaneously. I wanted to explore the idea of how colour tones as soft and muted as beige, taupe, and cream could still carry a sense of movement and mystery.

I used modelling paste to create thick, flowing textures across the canvas, allowing the shapes to form organically, almost like wind carving through sand or dust drifting through space. The added circular elements gave it a planetary feel, like distant moons or particles suspended mid-orbit. I kept the palette completely neutral, with hints of warmth and coolness, to mimic the softness of lunar landscapes while still keeping it contemporary.

The name “Lunar Dust” came to me as I stepped back and looked at the piece; it reminded me of those dreamy satellite photos of the moon’s surface, but reimagined with an emotional undertone. This piece isn’t loud or dramatic, but there’s a quiet kind of depth to it. It invites you to pause and notice the subtle movement, the layering, and the calm energy that lives in the in-between spaces.
