Mixed Media Painting

This piece emerged through a process of layering—both materially and emotionally. Working outside my usual palette, I allowed the canvas to evolve intuitively, building surfaces through fragments of texture, mark-making, and found elements. Recycled materials—paper, tissue, cards, tablets, pills, origami, eggshells, and wooden scraps became part of the composition, not as objects, but as carriers of memory, fragility, and transformation. Each layer was added, altered, or partially concealed, mirroring the way certain emotions surface, retreat, and reappear.

There was no fixed plan but only a willingness to stay with what felt unresolved, raw, and deeply unsettled. The process became less about control and more about listening to what the material suggested, to what needed to be held, and to what refused to be silenced. Not everything that seeks expression arrives in a form that is beautiful or easy to contain. Some experiences move beyond language—existing instead through texture, tension, and presence. Sanili Saha is a soulful visual artist and educator whose acrylic and mixed media works are deeply rooted in the Japanese philosophy of Ikigai.
