Abstract Mixed Media Artwork

In this age of competing media and difficult work-life balance, the news flashes make us all confused -whether to smile or to cry.

When we go out of our home country, our childhood dwelling to earn a livelihood, we have a jovial feeling and discomfort at the same time. We are often taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions in such situations at every step of day-to-day life. Through the eyes and heart of a person, the streams of joy and sorrow flow at the same time. It becomes very difficult to understand how our emotions are activated when we get news of an old friend diagnosed terminal illness and news of a promotion. The heart expands and sinks at the same time.

I tried to dwell within that space through this artwork, using bright colors to depict the strong and overwhelming feelings. Excitement and depression come together as a sense of ambivalence. The artwork used an unconventional medium, as molten crayon poured on canvas, which gives a three-dimensional sense to the beholder. With a deep brown wooden frame, this becomes a cynosure on a wall.
