This craft set has been primarily formulated using decoupage techniques, acrylic paints, wax pastes, and 3D embellishments – and it is centered around naturalism, the vigorous portrayal of movement, emotions, and bold jewel-like colors. Vines, flowers, and geometry are also evidently exemplifying the inlays found in most of the architectural structures of the time. Subsequently reflecting upon the grandeur and splendor of the revered empire itself; transporting one to a surreal realm and a state of euphoria. I have tried my best to incorporate ideals of beauty, glamour, and refinement that were typically a characteristic of the empire in its own time. Icons such as ‘the elephant’ and the renowned ‘jharokha’ (window architecture) embody the values of ‘stability’, ‘power’, and ‘confidence’. The 3D embellishments serve the purpose of giving an overall lifelike effect.
There are also traces of design elements borrowed from nature – typically a characteristic of most of the Mughal art belonging to this era – 16th and 18th centuries. Also known as ‘Biophilic Design’ in interiors, art, and architecture, it is said to promote positivity, productivity reduced stress levels, and mental restoration – in short, good vibes only! – to be transported to its new home. The final coating of varnish layers makes the pieces waterproof.
