Bayon Temple Acrylic Painting

Inspired by my travels through Cambodia, this acrylic painting draws from my photographs of the iconic Bayon Temple. The work captures the quiet power & spiritual stillness of the ancient site, where time, nature, and architecture exist in harmony. Using a palette knife and layered textures, I created the stone surfaces, allowing the weathered walls to feel almost tactile, marked by history and memory.

The central figure, serene and contemplative, emerges gently from the surrounding textures, symbolising inner calm amidst the grandeur of the temple ruins. Lush greens contrast with earthy stone tones, evoking the way nature reclaims and protects sacred spaces over time. Rather than a literal representation, the artwork translates the emotional essence of the place - its silence, spirituality, and grounding energy. Through expressive mark-making and texture, I would like the viewer to pause, reflect, and connect with their own memories of travel, stillness, and discovery.
