Arab Acrylic Painting

This is an acrylic painting using the technique of blocked in and glazing before the additional details are added on to the subjects. This painting depicts a typical style of the Arabian door found in the historical area of Old Dubai, Al Seef. In an Arab culture, doors represent a significant meaning of new beginnings and regional traditions with artistic expressions. The artist has used tinted shade of turquoise deep to paint the door's main planks of hardwood. Shades of burnt sienna, bronze and naples yellow are added to create a warm, rustic and metallic look.

The door which resembles a fort-like structure exudes a royal yet traditional look. The closed door with a traditional, heavy lock intends to grip the viewer into the silent aura of mystery of what lays behind. The artist paints the heavy, brick walls in palettes of yellow ochre and naples yellow, defining each bricks to indicate the major characteristic of an Arab house. The walls of Arabic houses are built with clay or mud bricks with main functionality being keeping the indoor temperature cool in harsh weathers. Two earthen pots in earthly shades of burnt sienna are added next to the door to give an aesthetic look to the surrounding. This paintings gives the viewer a feel of warm summer afternoon and the lazy silence of siesta behind the closed door.
