Pichwai (pichvai) is a style of painting that originated over 400 years ago, in the town of Nathdwara near Udaipur in Rajasthan, India. The word Pichwai has its roots in the Sanskrit pich (behind) and wai (wall hanging). A traditional art form that emerged in the 17th Century at the Nathdwara temple in Rajasthan, Pichwais are intricate paintings dedicated to Shrinathji and are typically hung behind the idol of the deity in local shrines. Since Pichwais paintings are a way of expressing love and devotion towards Lord Krishna, they are brimming with relevant motifs and bright colours. This artwork has been done on canvas paper for durability and longevity. The entire jewelry has been made with kundan stones, pearls, 3-D gold liners and gold foil. The outside border enhances the beauty while giving it a rustic look at the same time.
