Motion Mixed Media Painting

Stain of Motion is one of those pieces that just poured out. I didn’t go into it with a fixed idea. I just knew I wanted to express that feeling of movement that lingers, like a moment that leaves a mark long after it’s passed. I started by building texture using modelling paste, making the surface rough and unpredictable. Then I layered soft neutral tones, beiges, creams, hints of warmth to give it a calm base. But that stillness didn’t last long. I brought in deep, earthy browns and bold black strokes that moved across the canvas quickly and instinctively.

They weren’t planned, their responses were emotional, unfiltered. The black marks, to me, are the “motion” part. They cut through the calm like thoughts or emotions we try to suppress but can’t. And the rust-toned areas feel like what’s left behind. That’s where the name Stain of Motion came from. It’s about the marks that movement physical or emotional leaves behind. This painting isn’t meant to be clean or perfect. It’s textured, raw, and full of energy. It’s about embracing the chaos that comes with feeling something deeply.
