The Secret: the calling This is a series of paintings that sets about to capture the mystery and ambiguity that is life. The poetry of life is captured in the colorful depictions of the lock, key, and keyhole. At first glance they seem to capture the blatant; a door sealed, a key dangling provocatively, and a keyhole tempting possibilities. On closer inspection, the stress on the peeling paint, the rust on the key, and the hidden view of the keyhole all insinuate a hidden and forgotten era. How many seasons has that door witnessed? What does it guard so dutifully? In a world inundated with technology, what does a traditional lock imply? The interpretation of the paintings is exclusively upon the eye of the beholder. Each will see a reflection of the state they are currently in. A doorway to possibilities or a life sealed away? A dark mystery that is bolted never to be revealed. Only the worthy can enter, only those bearing the key. What does it enclose that it has crept into the walls and become a part of its being? The previously brightly colored doors now stand a bit dull, but all the more attractive for the shades of time collected over an era. The darkness of the keyhole tempts one to look closer, discover a little more, and risk a tad more. It seems to call out to the keeper of mysteries. It begs to be relieved of its secret, one that it is longing to share. Will you find the key? Will you discover what it holds? Do you hear the calling?
