Oil Painting

The five figures in the piece represent five distinct individuals—people who each possess their own unique lives, experiences, emotions, and mental worlds. The vessels positioned above their heads symbolize the human mind; each vessel represents the collective array of thoughts, feelings, memories, anxieties, dreams, and events that gather and constantly flow within an individual's mind. For me, the choice of the "vessel" form signifies that the human mind much like a container holds all these emotions and thoughts. At times, the vessel is filled with serenity and dreams, while at other times, it becomes crowded with anxieties, memories, and mental pressures. Although the five figures stand side by side, each bears a different vessel above their head; this illustrates that while we are all human and may appear similar from the outside, our inner worlds and the thoughts unfolding within each of us-are vastly different.
