She is painted in black and white, while her surroundings are filled with colors to represent the contrast between a painful past and a hopeful future. The artist used mixed media, a mix of collage and acrylic paint to create a rich and layered piece. She has also used Asian script in the collage to represent the confusion and the unknown of starting a life in a new country with language and culture barriers.
