Cityscape Acrylic Painting

This is an acrylic painting using the technique of blocked in and glazing before the additional details are added on to the subjects. The artist has centered old, traditional architectural buildings of Al Fahidi Historical District also known as Al Bastakiya as her inspirational subject, using the colours of yellow ochre, naples yellow, raw and burnt sienna. The various shades of earth tones stays true to their old, sturdy architectures. The buildings hold traditional barjeel (wind tower) that serves the purpose of air ventilation and conditioning during hot summer weathers complete their look of traditional Arab houses.

The artist includes the white mosque in the background, also known as Al Bastakiya Mosque in the neighborhood which adds the cultural glamour to the traditional marketplace. The structure of the mosque resembles the Ottoman style. The cobbled grounds are painted in the tinted shades of naples yellow and raw sienna. The grounds stay true to the traditional structure of the neighborhood. In this painting, the artist aims to highlight the past culture and tradition of the neighborhood. The neighborhood may have been turned into a modern day tourist attraction but the buildings architectural structures still stay intact to their true traditional culture.
