Imagine life without memories, worst of all, memories without documentation; what a transient existence that would be. Art makes life meaningful. It is undoubtedly the most powerful means of self-expression and human preservation. I am Jude Osikhueme Obozuwa - a Nigerian artist based in Dubai. I was born on May 24, 1985, to a culture where art transcends aesthetic value. As a person raised in the traditions and splendour of the ancient Benin kingdom, art has always been my default mode of expression, interpretation and response to my world. In 2011, I obtained a bachelor’s degree in visual arts (sculpture/painting) from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. I have exhibited my work nationally, most notably at Terra Kulture, Lagos. A quote that inspires my artistic process is "The mind is a complex machine propelled by passion to embellish creativity."
In 2021, I relocated to the United Arab Emirates where I currently practice. My painting is defined by my willingness to experiment with different media, and my unique rendition of pointillism technique. My art is a positive affirmation of my personal aesthetics: an articulation of the pangs and anxieties, complications of life and its impact on everyday society. I believe in creating art that ultimately stimulates conversation and encourages thoughtful consideration. My aim would be conveying a message of hope and resilience. I want to cultivate an art that can lift someone up and offer them a sense of purpose in the face of adversity.
These are some of the exhibitions that I have displayed my artworks in:
- “Nigeria @ 50 Independent Celebrations” E-center, Lagos (2010).
- “Our Cultural Palette “ Lagos Oriental Hotel (2010).
- “Phases” Terra Kulture, Lagos (2011).
