Rachel John, originally from India, has been living in the UAE for more than two decades. She holds a Diploma in Interior Design and is practicing art as her full time vocation for the past 8 years. Being self-taught, it took several years’ worth of learning, observing, exploring and refining to get where she is now. Her paintings are the manifestation of her views on life and her relationship with nature. For her, being an artist is more than just indulging the joy of creating art; it is the harmony of passion, patience and perseverance. It involves the emotional labor of doing something difficult, taking the risk of extending herself with truthfulness. With her art, she aims to transport the viewer to a space where they will be able to draw their own inspiration.
Her early practice was to explore all categories of painting and earned skills in doing portraiture, landscape and abstract expressionism. She started with the medium oil and later on she extended her practice with soft pastel, acrylic and charcoal. She finds her subjects in an organic stimulus which can be from a subtle thought or a profound visual. Her narrative style is mostly inclined to semi realistic approach with bold brush strokes. She also uses techniques with knife to get the desired outcome for her works.
