Based in Dubai, Smriti is largely a self-taught painter. She studied graphic designing and dabbled in Warli, a tribal art form. So it came naturally to her to rediscover painting in the years since.
Growing up in India, in a family where women played a key role in shaping their family, community and society, while also being prolific in creative expression, influenced by Smriti's style of work. It in fact, is the basis of her uninhibited use of colors, textures, bold brush and palette knife strokes; a style in which the art does all the talking and captures the essence of the mysterious while unveiling a vivid interior world.
In many of her pieces, women are also the centerpiece of the story. Smriti works mostly in acrylic and oil and allows the medium on canvas to reveal realism of the world she depicts.
From time to time, she varies her subject matter with a landscape or object-art, but abstracts and women remain her true passion.
