Photography Print
This dynamic semi-abstract photograph transforms the delicate riffles of the seashore into a vivid tapestry of color, texture, and movement. Through bold digital manipulation, the familiar language of water is reimagined as something almost geological or atmospheric, hovering between landscape, painting, and pure abstraction. Electric hues and luminous colours establish an expansive aquatic presence, while flashes of acid yellow, violet, and magenta create an energized visual rhythm. The repeated diagonal patterns of the riffles sweep across the image, generating a compelling sense of flow and direction.
Rather than documenting the shoreline literally, the work captures its underlying energy the fleeting interplay of water, light, wind, and shifting sand. Its artistic strength lies in the tension between order and spontaneity. The natural repetition of the ripples provides structure, while the intense color transformations disrupt that structure with unexpected bursts of visual energy. Fine, intricate marks invite close inspection, revealing layers of texture that continually change as the eye travels across the surface. Bold, contemporary, and richly immersive, this work demonstrates how photographic manipulation can transform an everyday coastal detail into an expressive visual experience. David encourages the viewer to look beyond recognizable subject matter and discover rhythm, movement, and emotion within the constantly changing patterns of the sea.
David Learman is an award winning photographer whose creative practice bridges iconic European fashion heritage with evocative landscape and abstract fine art photography.
