Roses Acrylic Painting

This is an acrylic painting using the technique of blocked in and glazing before the additional details are added on to the subjects. In this painting, the artist uses the age-old subject of roses. Flowers have been used as a symbolic subject of art by artists since the start of time, which is why the artist explores her artistic creativity in painting roses; the symbol of romance and love. The artist has used a natural background to set her focal subject of roses in a vase. The walls and window ledge are painted using warm shades of cadmium orange, yellow ochre, naples yellow and raw umber. The artist uses hints of light blue and burnt orange to suggest ageing textures on the wall and ledge.

For the vase, the artist uses shades of rich copper and black, and light blue to add sheen to the vase. Palette of magenta pink, cadmium red, alizarin crimson, white and orange have been used by the artist to paint the reds and whites of the roses. The leaves surrounding the roses have been painted in shades of hooker's green, oxide green and naples yellow. The artists adds foliage to give a viewer an impression of springtime lingering outside the window. The rustic, earthly colours used in the painting gives a viewer the feel of medieval interior.
