Abstract Acrylic Painting
The title reflects the emotional and physical journey of refugees and displaced people who are forced to leave behind familiarity, safety, and identity in search of stability. “Another home” suggests both hope and uncertainty — it is not the home, but something that must be rebuilt, reimagined, and often struggled for.
The inspiration comes from the global refugee crisis and the quiet suffering of families uprooted by war, climate change, political instability, and economic hardship. The fragmented figures and shifting landscapes reflect the instability of displacement. The sea in the background symbolizes dangerous journeys, while the barren land suggests uncertainty and loss. The repeated figures seated in colored panels resemble waiting — waiting for acceptance, documents, borders to open, or lives to restart.
The painting uses a semi-abstract, expressionist approach. The elongated bodies and simplified facial features are influenced by modernist distortion — exaggeration is used to communicate vulnerability rather than realism. Cool blues of the turbulent sea clash with the warm ochres and browns of the land, symbolizing emotional conflict.
The seated figures in panels on the right evoke bureaucracy, confinement, or identity stripped to a number. The red abstract shape in the sky may represent violence, surveillance, or chaos hovering above displaced lives. I want the viewer to see the fragility of the human body when placed against overwhelming forces—the silent strength of families holding together amid uncertainty. The child lying between adults is a symbol of both vulnerability and hope.
The contrast between movement (waves, instability) and stillness (figures waiting). More importantly, I want viewers to feel discomfort — not pity, but awareness. The distorted anatomy mirrors the distortion of identity that displacement causes. This work feels close because displacement is not only geographic — it can be emotional, cultural, or generational. Many people carry inherited stories of migration, exile, or loss. The painting becomes a reflection of belonging and the universal desire for safety. It asks: What makes a home? Is it land, people, memory, or acceptance? This piece holds empathy at its center — a quiet acknowledgment of resilience in the face of uncertainty.
