Sumana Malakar, originally from India and Dubai based, was born in Kolkata in 1975 and grew up in India. She has finished her graduation degree in Botany (hons.) and postgraduate diploma in Computers in Kolkata. The main concepts of her paintings are myths and rituals. Exploring these aspects and aiming for an unconscious state within the viewer, her art takes form in both figurative and abstract styles.
“My ultimate goal is to have the viewer feeling a sense of familiarity with the work, a sense of having experienced this before", says Sumana. Her art describes a fantasy that shelters the individual in order to lead him throughout life. With strong surreal influences, she creates a universe proclaiming harmony.
Sumana’s work has been displayed and ardently acquired by art aficionados in the Bahrain, Middle East, India and in various places. She has taken part in many art events and art exhibitions in Bahrain including:
