Abstract art is not meant to be a test of the painter's skill. Instead, it's meant to be a test of the audience's imagination and experiences. All great art has some sort of meaning behind it. Some type of emotion, whether positive or negative gets transferred onto the canvas. Abstract art gives you the freedom to explore the artwork and assign your own meaning to the piece. Abstract art is more about the shapes and colors and the feelings it expresses, not about the accurate portrayal of a subject. It also encourages discussion about colors, shapes, and lines which are concepts young children are learning. It is interpreted differently by everyone who sees it. The artist has the ability to express what other visual art styles cannot. To me it is a departure from reality. Some artists incorporate lots of patterns and details, and others just paint vast blocks of color. Some details in this piece took me several hours of coloring only in a single section. Taking care to not overdoing any portion that renders the whole piece The main unifying element in all abstract art is that the work is non-objective and non-representational. This means that the artwork does not intentionally look like anything. In the end it is all in the eye of the beholder.
