Oomph exuding in style, and the eyes giving it all out. The lady in the paintings is wearing the African headwraps. Headwraps are very traditional and rich in African culture. The practices of head wrap date back to pre-colonial African history in sub-Saharan Africa and head wraps were considered symbols of status, marriage, and family lineage. During the Transatlantic Slave Trade, they were one of the few cultural pieces enslaved Africans were able to bring to the Americas. The artist is trying to show the beautiful culture and the pride that the women hold. The artist has just used three colors- Black, red and silver, to keep the paintings simple. As it is said less is more.
