Yehliuh's Breath Photography Print
In this piece titled “Yehliu's Breath,” I invite the viewer to step into a quiet communion between earth and ocean—where time speaks not in hours or minutes, but in centuries of erosion, moss, and salt.
Captured near Taiwan’s Yehliu coast, this image is a meditation on resilience, stillness, and the elemental beauty of natural decay. During my travels through Taiwan, Yehliu Geopark stood out—not for its grandeur, but for its texture. These volcanic rocks, wet from the tide and softened by algae, held stories etched in porous surfaces.
The photograph was taken after a bout of coastal rain, when the moss was its richest green and the rocks bore a sheen like newly healed skin. I saw not just geology, but a landscape breathing. This composition is intimate—tight, immersive, and intentionally cropped to eliminate the horizon. By doing so, I wanted to pull the viewer into the rocks themselves, removing the distance often felt in landscape photography.
The volcanic stones are pockmarked and rounded, weathered by years of patient sculpting. The vibrant green algae clings to their forms like memory—bright in contrast to the muted basalt beneath. The tide slips silently behind them, blurred to a gentle texture, emphasizing the solid permanence of the stones. The depth of the field was narrowed to emphasize texture over perspective. No wide-angle tricks. This was about surface—the wrinkles of time, the scabs of salt, the verdancy of life that clings to the edge of drowning.
I hope the viewer feels grounded. Slowed. Hushed. This is not a photo that demands immediate attention—it reveals itself gradually, like the tide pulling back. It’s about erosion as art, patience as process, and the idea that even the most battered surfaces can be astonishing. To collectors, this piece offers a sense of internal peace. It belongs in spaces meant for reflection: a study, a wellness center, a coastal home.
